It’s funny how timing works and where ideas come from. As you may or may not know, God Among Geeks branched off into the podcast universe 80 some episodes ago with Neekology 101. (So if there was any confusion on that now you know)
On an upcoming episode we talked about the power that music has in regards to some of our favorite fandom features. One such score that I remember well is from the third Star Trek film (reboot) Star Trek: Beyond. The crew of the Enterprise dock at the Yorktown. It is a Federation space station teeming with citizens from all sorts of planets that compose the United Federation of Planets. These are hundreds of worlds that have pledged to work together for the betterment of all.
Rudy my fellow blogger and podcaster reminded me of the score for a scene from the film courtesy of Michael Giacchino called, Night on the Yorktown. When we saw it in the theatre ( Pre-Covid, Post Riots) that song really encapsulated the unity of a peaceful society comprised of so many different and diverse races.
Yes, it did get me emotionally and even viewing this today it made me see through my mind’s eye.
It made me think of what makes America great. We are a nation of unique individuals who have found a way to work together despite all the forces inside and outside determined to destroy our home.(If you watch the whole film that idea really comes to the forefront). What I love about fandom is how we find our commonalities and find a way to make everything better. Maybe these United States could look carefully at how the present can take a view into a better future. We need a little unity again, don’t you agree?
